Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books encourages students to read good books and have fun while competing with peers!

Participants compete in teams of up to five students led by a volunteer coach.

  • Two age divisions: Grades 3-4 and Grades 5-6.

  • Sign up as a team or individual (individuals will be joined to form teams).

  • Each team member reads books from the designated 20-book list from Nov-Feb.

  • Teams meet approximately once per month Nov-Jan, then twice in Feb leading up to the Battle of the Books competition. (Practice time/location determined by coaches.)

Battle Format:

  • Questions test the students’ memory of the books’ plot, characters, author, etc.

  • There will be 30 questions in total for each battle/division. The questions will be read one at a time to the group at large. After the question has been read, teams will have 30 seconds to converse and write down their answer on a whiteboard. All answers will be given in the format of the Title and Author of the book.

  • Teams will earn 1 point for the correct Title and 1 point for the correct Author, for a total of 2 possible points on each question.

  • The team in each age division with the most points wins!
